What is Christianity?

Christianity is a world faith, for people of every nation and language. The Christian faith is founded on the teachings and life of Jesus Christ, as written in the New Testament. Those who believe and follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour are called Christians. Christianity is a way of life and so for two thousand years Christians have been on the forefront of caring for the sick and needy, providing justice for the poor and the abused, and proclaiming salvation to the spiritually lost. Christians meet for worship, teaching and encouragement on any day of the week and in any surroundings from the outdoors to the cathedrals. Christianity proclaims salvation, forgiveness and hope to any person who puts their trust in Jesus.

What does it mean to be a Christian?

Anyone who believes in, and follows Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is a Christian, regardless of their 'status' in life or their history. A Christian strives to live a life that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and has the ongoing hope of salvation, even when they 'fail to be perfect'.

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." (Romans 10: 9-11 NIV)

How do I become a Christian?

You can become a Christian at any place and at any time, either by yourself or with help from a trusted Christian friend.

  • Admit that you are a sinner.
"For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard" (Romans 3:23 NLT)
  • Believe that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour.
"They were made free from the evil in the world by knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 2:20 NCV)
  • Confess your need to be saved.
"For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9 NLT).
  • Do it now . by praying this simple prayer:
Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner who has hurt you and other people. I believe that you are God who came to save me. I confess that I need you in my life. I invite you into my life as my Lord, Saviour and Friend. In Jesus' name, Amen.

If you have sincerely prayed this prayer, then congratulations! You are now a part of God's wonderful kingdom. We encourage you to join WDBC where we can help you grow as a Christian.

Please contact one of the Pastors either to ask more questions about the Christian faith or to tell us that you prayed that prayer asking Jesus into your life.
